as i’m writing this, i am procrastinating and panicking on a japanese literature paper that i should have started a long time ago. so, first and foremost, i hope to god that you got better at time management.
this year was a rather strange year. i personally have ambivalent feelings about it -- i wonder how you’ll feel about 2012 this time next year? i’ll recap for you, just in case you forget.
~ you finally finished the college application process and decided to go to upitt.
~ you grew much closer to katherine and amanda. you spent countless nights of eating tons of food and laughing over horrible movies and writing the tale of two cages. speaking of which, i really hope you’re continuing that masterpiece.
~ you realized a dream -- you finally saw rammstein with katherine on april 26th. it was a beautiful, indescribable experience. hey, maybe you got extremely lucky and saw them again! i’m not getting my hopes up, but maybe it’s a thing. i hope they’re still an important part of your life, but even more than that, i hope that they haven’t broken up by the time you’re reading this (okok)
~ and right after the rammstein concert, you went on a trip to washington d.c. with katherine, amanda, and richie, where you wandered through the mysterious underground and ate delicious sandwiches while watching awful nicolas cage movies, specifically bad lieutenant. it was honestly one of the best weekends of your life.
~ you also spent prom weekend in new york city with your best friends and saw the avengers seven times that month. are you proud of yourself? because i know i am.
~ your relationship with scott ended, but as of my writing this, we’re still good friends. i hope you have stayed in contact with him, and i hope you’re friends with him for a long time.
your transition to college wasn’t exactly easy, but it wasn’t the worst. i need not remind you of what happened over thanksgiving break; i’m sure you remember that as well as i do. you enjoyed your classes, though chinese did make you want to drink yourself to death on several occasions. let’s see how next semester goes.
i hope you’ve been able to move on from what happened to you. i hope that no matter where you are, you are somewhere safe, surrounded by people who love and care about you. if there is one thing i’ve learned this year, it’s that i am not alone, no matter what -- and neither are you, i promise. you have katherine and amanda, and they will be there for you until the end. your family is also there for you, no matter how frustrating they can be sometimes.
i need to work on learning to love myself and to be kinder to myself. i hope you’ve managed to accomplish at least a little of that by the time you’re reading this.
from where i’m standing, the future looks very uncertain with regards to...well, anything. so i’m hesitant to make assumptions or dispense advice overall.
i just hope that you are happy and loved and on your way to becoming a wonderful speech pathologist. the world is a big, scary place, but we’ll be fine. i know we will. there’s so much beauty on this earth -- we just need to remember that and live for that when we stumble and fall and struggle and drown in self-loathing.
i’m going to fight. i hope you will too.

This year has been really rough on you, especially with the recent events. I just want to let you know that you deserve so much better than that and that i hope you can find happiness.
Also, I hope that in 2013, you manage to be more lenient on yourself. I'm not saying that having high expectations is a bad thing, but too much and it'll really stress you out and make you miserable. I hope that 2013 will treat you tons better and that you'll have a generally more enjoyable time doing what you like to do!
